Colleen Curry Highland Bagpiper
Providing traditional Highland bagpipe music for weddings, memorial services, and other occasions throughout the Capital Region and Southern Adirondacks, as well as instruction for students ages 8 to 18.
Every occasion is unique, and sometimes, people know exactly what they want from a hired piper.
Other times, someone knows that they'd like bagpipes at their event, but they aren't sure exactly what to ask for. If this is you, here are some standard requests:
If you think your event calls for more than one bagpiper, I can recruit other pipers and even drummers to form a band or mini-band.
Please note that I do work a corporate 9-to-5 and am not available for gigs that occur during regular working hours. Additionally, I do not perform at house parties, nor do I play weddings where the bagpipes are a surprise to the couple. If any of the above apply to your event, reach out anyway; I would be happy to put you in touch with another piper who might be interested.
I offer private instruction for beginner and intermediate students. Whether you're picking up the pipes for the first time or looking to build on an existing foundation, I provide patient, individualized guidance tailored to your goals. We will cover both piping technique and foundational music theory.
Students who are brand new to piping will want to hold off on investing in a set of highland bagpipes during the first year of learning. Instead, purchase a practice chanter (approx. $50 to $100 USD) from a reputable dealer such as Henderson Imports or The Pipers Hut.
I’ve been playing the highland bagpipes since 2010. In 2012, I was a member of the World Pipe Band Championship-winning Scotia Glenville Pipe Band, now called Capital District Youth Pipe Band (Colonie, NY). I then performed with the competitive Capital Region Celtic Pipe Band (Albany, NY) until it disbanded during the pandemic.
Today, I play with Columbia and District Pipe Band (Hudson, NY). I taught my first students through this organization in 2022 and began teaching private lessons shortly thereafter. I was also a staff instructor for the online piping school Piper's Dojo for all of 2025.
Piping is just one of my musical passions. I've been playing piano since age 6, have a formal background in music theory, and am actively studying the violin.
Whether you're interested in booking a performance or learning more about private lessons, I'd be happy to hear from you.
